Auction Preview

Prior to each auction we hold a viewing in our saleroom in Tokyo where all the lots for sale are on display and our sales team are on hand to answer any questions. This is an opportunity to view our lots personally so please be sure to check the condition of the lots you are interested in before placing bids as we do not accept any cancellations after the auction.

Our online catalogue becomes available on our website around two weeks before each auction. You may view our latest catalogue here
※Please note that the colours depicted in our catalogue may vary under different lighting conditions.

If you are unable to visit our saleroom, you may request a condition report which will be prepared by our specialists. Customers with an Online Membership can request condition reports Please bear in mind that our reports are for guidance only and that personally viewing the lots is recommended.
※The colours depicted in our condition reports may vary under different lighting conditions.

Any descriptions in the catalogue or condition report etc. are provided for guidance only. The conditions of an artwork are not limited to the descriptions published in our catalogue or condition reports, and there may be some discrepancies. While we make certain observations on the works, which we trust are helpful, please understand that sometimes we are not able to cover all defects and conditions. Customers place bids at their own judgement and responsibility.

The Auction

Mallet Japan auctions use the bidding-up system, with four ways to participate:
1)Displaying a paddle in our saleroom
2)Written absentee bidding
3)Live telephone bidding
4)Online absentee bidding

You may bid in person by filling out our bidding form and by picking up a paddle, available at our reception on the day. Once the sale has begun, the auctioneer will hold the sale in lot-order. If you would like to place a bid, please raise your paddle.

Please fill out our absentee bidding form and email or fax it to us by 6 PM the day before the auction. During the sale a Mallet Japan representative will bid on your behalf up to the maximum amount indicated.

Please fill out our telephone bidding form and email or fax it to us, or request a telephone bid via your MyPage by 6 PM two days before the auction. Telephone bids are accepted on a first-come-first-served basis as the number of available phone lines is limited.

Please also be aware that telephone bidding is reserved for customers who intend to bid within or above the estimate range as published in our catalogue. Should you wish to bid below the lower estimate, please make an absentee bid instead.

To register for bidding online, please create an online membership account and login to our website. From your “MyPage” you can apply for absentee and telephone bidding in our auction. Please allow some time for your online bids to be approved and registered by us. Absentee bids must be registered by 6 PM the day before the auction, and telephone bids must be registered by 6 PM two days before the auction. We will not be able to accept any new registrations or changes to bids after these deadlines.
※Please note that our online bidding services are not live. You may only register for telephone or written absentee bidding online.

No cancellations are accepted after the auction.

Any descriptions in the catalogue etc. are provided for guidance only. The conditions of an artwork are not limited to the descriptions published in our catalogue or condition reports, and there may be some discrepancies. Customers place bids at their own judgement and responsibility, and it is not possible to cancel sales for any reason, such as for cataloguing errors or differences in opinion regarding the artwork. For further information, please consult our Conditions of Sale.
